ALJOUF — Al Ittihad temporarily took the top spot in the Saudi Pro League after defeating Al Orobah 2-0, with goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Steven Bergwijn. The win lifted Al Ittihad to 27 points. Al Orobah came close to scoring early when Emmanuel Boateng's header was cleared off the line by Al Ittihad defender AbduleIlah Al Amri before it could cross the goal line. Despite missing their injured captain Karim Benzema, Al Ittihad regained control of the game and threatened the home side's goal through Moussa Diaby and Muhannad Al Shanqiti. It was Al Shehri, however, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute, converting a cross from Al Shanqiti with a header. In the second half, Al Shehri won a penalty, and Bergwijn converted it in the 52nd minute to give Al Ittihad a comfortable lead. Diaby's subsequent goal was ruled out for offside, but the visitors cruised to victory, moving to the top of the league. Al Orobah's points remain at 10, keeping them in 12th place.
