Coalition forces intercept and destroy Houthi drones targeting Abha airport
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 12 - 2021

The command of the Arab Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen announced Sunday that it had intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the "terrorist Houthi militias" targeting Abha International Airport.
Saudi Press Agency (SPA) stated via its Twitter account that the Houthi militias attempted to target travelers with three drones. The Coalition indicated that the drones were launched from Sanaa airport, which has become a center for attacks launched across borders.
In a separate statement earlier Sunday, the Coalition stated that the Saudi defenses destroyed a drone launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeting city of Khamis Mushait.
The drone took off from Sana'a International Airport in Yemen, the Coalition said. The Iran-backed militia has continued targeting Saudi areas and civilian objects.
On Thursday, a "hostile" projectile launched by the Houthis fell on civilian objects in Saudi Arabia's Ahad Al-Masarihah, a governorate in Jazan, resulting in material damages, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The media spokesman for the Civil Defense Directorate in the Kingdom's Jazan region, Col. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, said that the directorate received a report about the fall of a hostile projectile launched by the "Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia from Yemeni territory towards the industrial area of Ahad Al-Masarihah," the press agency reported him as saying.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned the terrorist Houthi militia's attempts to target civilians and civilian objects in Khamis Mushait City in a systematic and deliberate manner with a bomb-laden drone, which was intercepted by the Coalition forces.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) stressed that the continuation of these terrorist attacks by the Houthis reflects their blatant disregard of the international community and all international laws and norms.
The ministry urged the international community to take an immediate and decisive stance to stop these recurrent acts that target vital and civil facilities, the security of the Kingdom, and global energy supplies.
It stressed that the continued threat of these attacks in recent days is a grave escalation that represents new evidence of these militias' attempts to undermine security and stability in the region.
The UAE renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia over these terrorist attacks and reiterated its firm position against all threats to Saudi Arabia's security and stability. The UAE also reiterated its support for all measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to maintain the safety and security of citizens and residents.
MoFAIC stressed that the security of the UAE and that of Saudi Arabia are indivisible and that any threat to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered a threat to the security and stability of the UAE. — SPA
