Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — The Riyadh General Court has sentenced a Saudi to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes for committing a series of armed robberies, local media reported on Tuesday quoting court sources. The Saudi, who is in his 30s, was convicted of stealing two cars after threatening their drivers with knife and filling a car with petrol without paying. Dirab police station received a report from an Asian taxi driver that a Saudi had asked him to drive him to a remote area, where the passenger attacked him with the handle of a knife. The man robbed the victim of his mobile phone and money and drove away with the car, leaving the driver behind. A Saudi then called the same police station and said another Saudi who had asked him for a lift threatened him with a knife and drove off with his car. An Asian then notified police that a Saudi filled his car with petrol, threatened the worker with a knife and drove off without paying. Dirab police's search and investigation team gathered information and were able to locate the suspect and arrest him. He admitted to the charges against him and the case was referred to the concerned authorities.
