Traffic rerouted for Makkah summits
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 26 - 05 - 2019

MAKKAH — The traffic security authorities in Makkah have urged the public to use alternative routes for vehicular traffic in Jeddah and Makkah during the forthcoming Makkah emergency summits.
Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Bassami, assistant commander of the Umrah Security Forces for Traffic Affairs, urged the public in Jeddah and Makkah to fully cooperate with the security and traffic authorities.
He welcomed the call made by the Makkah Emirate to citizens, expatriates, visitors and Umrah pilgrims to cooperate for the success of the Gulf, Arab and Islamic summits convened by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on Ramadan 25-27 corresponding to May 30-June1 in Makkah.
Al-Bassami said a number of routes have been designated for the movement of guests over the coming three days from May 28 to 30.
He called on everyone to keep away from King Abdullah Road, Andalus Street and the Islamic Port Bridge in Jeddah as well as the Third Ring Road, Aziziyah Road and Al-Sudd Tunnels from the eastern side in Makkah.
Motorists can choose alternative roads in Jeddah such as Madinah Road, Prince Ahmad Road or Haramain Road or Buraiman Road, heading to Makkah through Hijrah Road or Old Makkah Road.
Al-Bassami urged people to keep away from 3rd Ring Road and instead take 4th Ring Road or go to the northern side or Al-Sharaie Road. The faithful can also take Al-Sail Road or Al-Hada Raod to reach Haram. He said the Aziziah Public Road will remain open for those heading for Central Haram Region coming from all directions as well as for their return.
King Salman has called emergency summits of Gulf and Arab leaders in Makkah on Ramadan 25 (May 30) to discuss ways to enhance regional security and stability in the wake of the attacks on commercial vessels in UAE territorial waters and on two Saudi pumping stations by Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias.
Makkah will also host the 14th session of the Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on May 31.
