JEDDAH — Traffic authorities in Jeddah have called upon the public to avoid the King Abdullah Road for the next couple of days because the road will be heavily used by the motorcades of delegations participating in the extraordinary Islamic summit in Makkah. “Forty-five motorcades will move at different times along King Abdullah Road, so residents and visitors are advised to avoid the road and use Madinah and Prince Majed roads instead,” said Brig. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, director of Jeddah Traffic Administration. He said necessary plans have been worked out to ensure smooth movement of traffic during the summit days. Al-Qahtani said north Jeddah residents planning to perform Umrah should use Madinah and Asfan roads while those who live in south Jeddah should travel by the old Makkah highway, as the Haramain Expressway will be set aside for use by the motorcades. He also urged the city's residents to avoid the Haramain road during the summit days.
