JEDDAH — The general assembly of Okaz Organization for Press and Publications has approved the appointment of Ahmed Bin Sulaiman Al-Battah as the organization's new director general. Al-Battah has replaced Walid Bin Jameel Qattan, who resigned from the post for personal reasons after several years of service. The general assembly also reviewed the financial statements and the closing account of the organization for the fiscal year 2018. The meeting commended the development of content in Okaz and the newspaper's ability to compete in the era of digital media. The general assembly met last Saturday under Abdullah Bin Saleh Kamel, chairman of the organization's board of directors. The meeting reiterated that the members were counting on the administrative and editorial skills of the organization's staff to make a quantitative leap for its various publications, keeping pace with the latest developments in digital media. Entering the new era of digital media in force will entail great efforts but it will empower Okaz to face all the challenges in the international media scene, the general assembly pointed out. The general assembly believed that such a move would ensure the continuous success of Okaz in the media battle via digital platforms in a manner commensurate with the deep-rooted reputation of the organization at local, regional and international levels. The general assembly praised the development of content in Okaz in the new phase through the promotion of qualified cadres capable of dealing with the latest technological advancements in the media field and ensuring the transmission of news to the reader as fast as possible through social media platforms. The general assembly approved the extension of the tenure of the present board of directors and gave it more powers to implement administrative reforms. It authorized the board to follow up all previous measures and decisions that are yet to be completed, especially those concerning the gradual shift from print to digital publishing. The board was asked to find new investment opportunities to increase the organization's revenue. The general assembly reviewed the report of the board of directors as well as the director general, including decisions and measures executed to deal with the current situation of the organization by cutting down expenses. The meeting decided to give up and liquidate all infeasible investments and take corrective steps in light of the organization's difficult economic conditions and professionally deal with the challenges in the face of sharp competition from new media. Following the general assembly meeting, the board of directors held its first session in its extended tenure. The members unanimously voted for Abdullah Kamel to continue in his position as chairman of the board. The board restructured its committees for various tasks and responsibilities. These included the executive committee, the risk and audit committee, the incentives and rewards committee and the social responsibility committee.
