GGI, AMI Juffali and UCC win Hyundai Afternoon encounters

JEDDAH — GGI, AMI Juffali and UCC won their respective matches in the Hyundai Summer Afternoon matches sponsored by Hyundai and managed by Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) at Eskan Grounds here recently.
The Hyundai-sponsored Morning Tournament, meanwhile, saw ALJ Toyota, Mercedes Benz and QRCC emerge winners.
In the first match, GGI batted first and posted a massive total of 221-1 in 18 overs against Pak Kashmir. Ayaz remained unbeaten on 90 off 51 balls (15 fours) and Tariq not out on 90 off 39 balls. The two scored 192 for the second wicket. Pak Kashmir, chasing big target, could only get to 154-9 to lose by 67 runs. Shahir made 45, while Hamid and Shaer Badar hit 25 each. Ali took 2-33.
In another match, United Cricket Club (UCC), opting to bat first against Jotun Paints, piled up 163-9. Zahid Mehmood hammered 73 and Irfan 33, while none other could cross the double-digit mark. Hassan took 3-32, Shabbir 2-39 and Ijaz 2-43.
Jotun Paints, in reply, could do little against Zahid Mehmood, who grabbed 4-17 to restrict the painters to 143 to win the match by 20 runs. Shabbir was the only batsman to show some resistance and put on 55 off 33 balls. Shafeeq hit 25. Nasir took 3-29.
Another outing saw AMI Juffali beat Hala Academy Blue by five wickets. Choosing to bat first, Hala posted 167-6. Opener Aleem top-scored with 29 and Amjad added 28. Zafar scalped 3-35. AMI Juffali achieved the target of 169 for the loss of five wickets. Emad smashed 68 off 46 balls, Rafi Gujjar 43 and Nadeem 35. Amjed took 2-28 and Aleem 2-41.
In the Hyundai Morning Phase I Tournament action, ALJ Toyota bat ATS by two wickets. Batting first, ATS was bundled out for 90. Naeem top-scored with 24. Bilal scalped 3-21 and Tanveer 2-15. ALJ Toyota, in reply, was home for the loss of eight wickets. Imran hit 36, while Amir took 3-14.
Mercedes Benz beat Otex by 56 runs. Mercedes Benz piled up 174-8 with Javed and Jibran scoring 29 each. Haroon took 3-42. Otex, in reply, was bowled out for 118. Amjad scored 52 off 23 balls as none other could get to double figures against some accurate bowling by Javed (4-21) and Jibran (3-13).
QRCC was named the winner against Al-Rayyan on technical grounds.
