Amir Shauqi JEDDAH — With superb skill and teamwork, the Consulate General of Malaysia team, Malaya Tigers, emerged the champions of the inaugural ASEAN 6-Nations Futsal Tournament here recently. The championship was hosted by Brunei Consulate with all six ASEAN Consulates in Jeddah — Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand — participating. The five-a-side tournament was played in accordance with the FIFA's rules and regulations. The teams were divided into two groups for the preliminary round matches. Under the captaincy of Consul General Mohammed Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Malaysia, strolled into semifinals after overpowering Thailand and the Philippines with comfortable margins. In the first semifinal, the Malaya Tigers continued remarkable scorings form and superb skills to brush aside Indonesia, 6-4. In the second semis, Brunei blanked Thailand 5-0. In the final, Malaya Tigers stunned the host Brunei, 3-0, to remain unbeaten.
