As part of the 2nd ASEAN Games 2009, a one-day Table Tennis Tournament organized by the Royal Thai Consulate-General, was held at the Thai CG's residence here on Thursday. The championship in men's table tennis singles went to Singapore. While the champions in women's singles and mixed doubles were players from Indonesia. At the opening ceremony, Praphat Chantaharn, Consul-General of Thailand, delivered a welcoming speech and declared the tournament officially open. The aim of the games is to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and solidarity among the staff and families of the ASEAN Missions in Jeddah. There are six ASEAN countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand taking part in this year's games. The ASEAN Consulates-General in Jeddah organized the first ASEAN Games in 2008 on the basis of one country hosting one sport tournament. For the next games, Singapore will host a badminton tournament on July 16 and Philippines will host bowling on July 30. Malaysia will host sepak takraw, Brunei Darussalam golf, and Indonesia tennis. The dates of these events will be announced later. __
