Ayman Al-Saydalani Okaz/Saudi Gazette MADINAH — A 70-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer's disease and dementia was left on the street after Madinah Mental Health Hospital and Madinah Social Affairs Center reportedly refused to help him. The old man was taken earlier by his niece to the hospital and abandoned there. When doctors examined him, they found that he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The doctors decided that the patient needed social care and should be referred to the social affairs center. The hospital wrote a letter to the local police station explaining the old man's situation and asked them to take him to the center. When police officers gave up on finding the man's family's address, they took him to the center. To their surprise, they were told by staff to bring the old man early in the morning the next day when the director would be around. The employees said they could not receive any cases while the director was away. Madinah police spokesman Col. Fahd Al-Ghannam said he sent a letter to the governorate to help resolve the old man's situation.
