MADINAH — Relatives of a 65-year-old patient undergoing treatment at King Fahd Hospital here allegedly assaulted a doctor in the emergency ward of the hospital. Security personnel, who arrived at the scene following reports of the assault, arrested one person while two others managed to escape. Col. Fahad Al-Ghannam, media spokesman of Madinah Police, said the doctor was attacked while he was treating the aged patient. The arrested relative is being interrogated at the police station, he said. The doctor claimed that one of the three companions of the aged patient slapped him on the face as he was discussing the case with one of his colleagues. The patient, the doctor said, was brought to the hospital in critical condition suffering from abnormal breathing and a presence of high level of carbon dioxide. The patient was placed on a monitor and an anesthesia expert was called to place a tube through the patient's mouth, the doctor said. Dr. Abdul Hameed Shahhat, Director of King Fahd Hospital, said the patient's relatives beat up the doctor and tore the doctor's uniform.
