MADINA: The Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) has begun investigating claims by an Indonesian maid that her sponsor's wife subjected her to burning with an iron and other forms of physical abuse. A spokesman for Madina Police confirmed that initial investigations had been concluded and that all its files had been passed on to the BIP. The 20-year-old maid was taken to hospital last week after she jumped from the building where she lives with her employers and doctors at Madina's Al-Ansar Hospital called in police after noticing injuries thought to be unrelated to the fall. A hospital source said that the patient, who has since been transferred to King Fahd Hospital where she remains in intensive care, exhibited burn marks on her back and other parts of her body, as well as open wounds on her face and head. “An X-ray revealed broken ribs,” the source said. “She is currently in an unstable condition and her recovery time will only be established at a later date.” The woman has accused her sponsor's wife, a female university professor, of burning her with an iron and causing other injuries. The wife of the woman's sponsor denies all accusations, however, while her father told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the maid suffered from “mental disturbances”. He said she had been examined on previous occasions by four doctors at different hospitals. “We have their reports stating her mental condition,” he said. “She had tried to jump several times from the same building.”
