ABHA — Lana International Indian School in Khamis Mushayt recently celebrated the 64th Republic Day of India with colorful events. In addition to various programs presented by students of both boys and girls sections, the day's highlights included the launch the second edition of the school magazine “Spectrum”, swearing-in of the school captain and vice captain, distribution of the Best Teacher awards and the opening of the new school canteen. The school moved a step further in extending a hand of friendship to another neighborhood school — Al-Janoub International. As a good will gesture, Lana invited C. Sidheeque, the principal of Al-Janoub, to be the chief guest on the occasion. Lana Principal Maria G. Sebastian said, “In this changing world where lines between cultures and ethnicities are blurring and people of different mind sets, opinions and values are coming together, it is not appropriate that two schools affiliated to the CBSE work in isolation. The stepping stone has been laid today for the benefit of the community at large.” School Chairman Bader Jalalah said such friendship should encompass all schools in the Asir province. The function was attended by the school coordinator, V.P. Devassy, teachers and a large number of parents. Uzma Pasha welcomed the guests and Nishat Jahan, the headmistress, gave vote of thanks. — SG
