Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH – Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour Bin Miteb opened the Palestine Street walkway on Tuesday evening. He also inspected the final phases of work for developing the Middle Corniche, which will be inaugurated soon. Speaking to reporters, Prince Mansour said that all the utility projects in the Middle Corniche would be completed within one month. “With this, two phases of the ongoing refurbishing of the Corniche seafront will be completed.” He added, “The process of inviting tenders and awarding project for the third phase in North Corniche would be done in due course. Names of companies that are qualified to take part in the bidding for the South Corniche seafront refurbishing will be announced later.” Prince Mansour disclosed that the ministry would explore the prospect of constructing walkways at other locations after evaluation of the Palestine Street walkway experiment. The Palestine Street Project was completed at a cost of SR45 million while another SR153 million was spent in refurbishing the North Corniche seafront. Jeddah Mayor Dr. Hani Abu Ras said the seafront project will transform the city into a major tourist attraction. The Corniche seafront is regarded as the largest single phase multi-recreational and entertainment facility in the Middle East region. The project is part of the municipality's strategy of overhaul urban development that includes the entire Corniche zone. Jeddah Mayoralty won the prestigious Big Project Middle East Award for this project, which was implemented under the supervision of the Jeddah Development & Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC). Meanwhile, Daifullah Al-Otaibi, mayor of the Eastern Province, opened a number of road and flyover projects in Dammam on Tuesday. These included the 8 km development of Prince Naif Road with flyovers costing SR240 million, asphalting, lighting and pavement works worth SR16.6 million and SR8.4 drainage projects. The mayor also opened Arab Gulf Street project. The 7.9 km project was completed at a cost of SR76 million. The SR33.5 million Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Road development project in Al-Khobar was also opened by the mayor.
