JEDDAH — The Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah (SLISJ) celebrated its Founders Day at an in-house function last month. The highlights of the Founder's Day was a keynote speech by the founding chairman endearingly called as the “Founding Father” Shahul Hameed Salih, who is also the current chairman and advisor to the school. He thanked the director of education of the Ministry of Education for providing the necessary support. “It is our duty to be grateful to the king and to the governor of the western region for expressing consent to establish a school of this nature in this blessed land,” he said. School principal Majaziya Mubarak thanked all the previous chairpersons, members of the board of the management, five former principals, staff and parents for all the pains behind the smiles today. In her speech, she promised the children of her best of service to make their school days rewarding and memorable. Earlier, the senior head prefect of the school Sabith Sahul Hameed welcomed the gathering followed by a speech from the senior deputy prefect Thimasha Ranjan, who spoke on the founders' day and merits of holding essay and quiz competitions. The function was also graced by Azhar Ariff – popularly known as the “Handyman” – one of the prominent members of the founding team.
