M.Y.L. Abdul Kaiyoom, former principal of Sri Lankan International School, Jeddah (SLISJ), died Sunday in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the school announced in an e-mail to parents and staff Tuesday. He was buried in Kuppiyawatta Muslim Burial Ground. Kaiyoom served as the school's principal from 1999-2000 during which he introduced the school anthem, opened a computer lab, put emphasis on sports and oversaw the school's first sports meet. He was instrumental in carrying out extensive reforms in the school's curriculum. “As a person with a generous heart, he spent much of his time planning for the school. He proved his sincerity by his relentless service to the Sri Lankan community of SLISJ,” said Shahul Hameed Salih, chairman of SLISJ. “We, as a grateful SLISJ community, have been inspired to foster and preserve the humble services rendered by him. In the name of Allah, we will offer special prayers for his departed soul,” he added.
