YANBU — An Ethiopian maid in her 30s stabbed a girl and her mother in Yanbu several times on Wednesday evening, according to local police. Her mother was woken up by the daughter's screams at around 6 p.m. and when she rushed to the room she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood. When she tried to help her daughter the maid attacked her and stabbed her three times under the ear and left cheek, causing her to collapse. Police said the maid, who was recruited seven months ago by the family, had sneaked into the girl's room with a knife in her hand. The 17- year old girl tried to defend herself but the maid overpowered her and stabbed her in the neck and on different parts of her body. The screams alerted neighbors in the Al-Sareef neighborhood and two young men broke into the house to investigate, police said. They found the mother and her daughter lying in poolS of blood and the maid still carrying the knife. The men overpowered her and tied her hands together with rope before contacting police. Col. Fahd Al-Ghanam, Yanbu Police spokesman, said when officers arrived at the scene they arrested the maid, while the victims were rushed to hospital. Dr. Abdulrhamn Al-Sa'edi, director of health in Yanbu, said the mother and her daughter were rushed into intensive care and doctors operated on the mother to stop the bleeding in her neck. He said the girl sustained superficial wounds in the neck and her two cheeks and her condition is stable.
