JEDDAH – The WPCA-organized Hyundai Afternoon Cup is all set for the semifinals with Nestle Milo to take on GGI and Natcom against Al-Safree. In the quarterfinals Nestle Milo batted first and put on 162-8 in 18 overs. Qasim Butt made 44 in 22 balls, Ahmed 33 and Asim 26. Desert Lions, in reply, crumbled for 99 to hand Nestle Milo a 63-run win and the ticket to the semifinals. Mushtaq (34) and Phelix (14) were the only ones to cross the double-digit mark. Asim claimed 2-13, Ijaz Butt 2-13 and Haroon 2-22 as Fahad and Zahid Qureshi took a wicket each. In the second match, GGI took the strike first and piled up 155-7. Skipper Pervaiz Baig hammered 63 runs off 31 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes) and Haroon hit 36 as the two added 94 runs in 57 balls. Noman of Hala School restricted GGI with 4 for 32 and Usman took 2-31 while Abid had one. Hala International School, in reply, was in command till its skipper Mohsin Mirza (52 in 29 balls) was at the crease, but once he was back in the pavilion the wickets fell like ten pins against some accurate bowling by Adil (5-38) and Abid (3-19). The Schoolboys could only manage 145-9. The Afternoon Tournament is sponsored by Hyundai. The semifinals will be played on November 30.
