JEDDAH — Aalami Urdu Markaz, an organization devoted to promote Urdu language, is holding a condolence meeting for Syed Mahtab Ahmed who breathed his last here recently. Ahmed was a renowned Pakistani community figure and a staunch supporter of Urdu language. Abdul Salik Khan, Pakistani Consul General, will preside over the function at Lasani Spinzer Restaurant Wednesday at 8.30 P.M., Athar Abbasi, president of the Aalami Urdu Markaz, said in a press release. Ahmed's family and friends will pay tributes to his extraordinary services for the community and particularly for the Urdu literature in the Kingdom. Ahmed played a key role in organizing a series of memorable cultural functions including annual grand mushairas (poetic evenings) held under the aegis of Aalami Urdu Markaz. — SG
