CAIRO — As many as 20 Syrian artists, writers and directors, including women, will be honored at the 28th edition of the Alexandria Film Festival, which will begin on Sept. 12. President of the festival Waleed Saif said that Syrian revolution has been chosen as the theme for this year's festival. He said that eight prominent men and women artists will be honored in the festival in recognition of their support to the current Syrian revolution against Bashar Al-Assad's regime. They included famous singer Asala Nasri, poet and writer Hakam Al-Baba, artists — Zaina Hallaq; Louiz Abdul Karim and Abdul Hakim Qutaifan — film director Wahat Al-Rahib, and brothers — Muhammad and Ahmad Molas. Saif said that about 120 films will be displayed at the festival. Out of these 13 films from as many countries will be included in the official competition category. Egypt will compete with its new film “After deluge,” directed by Hazem Mutawalli. A total of 80 digital movies are also expected to be shown. — SG
