MAKKAH — Osama Al-Bar, Mayor of Makkah, has ordered the formation of a committee that would lay down a mechanism for monitoring the transportation of garbage from private companies, pilgrims' residences and hotels to landfills in the city. The committee will ensure all business enterprises sign contracts with companies specialized in waste disposal. This is in line with the mayoralty's goal to remove hazards to environmental health. The committee includes a number of officials and specialists in the field, such as Hussein Balubaid, Director General of Public Services; Saud Al-Hazzani, Supervisor General of Branch Municipalities; Abdulsattar Shuqdar, Director General of Engineering Monitoring; Zuhair Haddad, Chairman of the Committee for Inspection of Pilgrims' Housing; Muhammad Al-Mourqi, Director General of Cleanliness; among others. Al-Bar said the committee implements and enforces a mechanism that ensures owners of private enterprises sign contracts with companies to transport garbage to landfill sites and also develops regulations and directives regarding waste disposal. He confirmed the mayoralty is keen to provide high-quality services and a healthy and safe atmosphere for pilgrims.
