A police officer died after a Civil Defense vehicle crashed into his car in eastern Riyadh Sunday morning. According to eyewitnesses, the Civil Defense vehicle was rushing to put out a fire that broke out in Al-Rawabi district at around 4.00 A.M. when it collided with the patrol car. The driver of the patrol car, a private first class, died on the spot. Traffic police and investigators arrived at the accident scene and moved the body to a hospital morgue. According to traffic police, the Civil Defense vehicle was mainly responsible for causing the accident. Meanwhile, Riyadh police issued a statement clarifying a shooting incident Saturday night near a housing compound in which two people were slightly wounded. The statement said a man driving a small car fired in the air in a street near the housing compound in eastern Riyadh at 10.30 P.M. The motorist fired once again toward security guards at the compound's gates. The gunman was overpowered and arrested. The man acted abnormally and his speech was incoherent. He sustained injuries in different parts of his body when the guards tried to overpower him. Two other people present at the scene were caught in the crossfire and sustained minor injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital and were released after treatment. __
