Traffic accident leads to liquor bust By Faris Al-Rashidi Okaz/Saudi Gazette HAFR AL-BATIN – A five-car traffic accident in Hafr Al-Batin Governorate, 500 kilometers from Riyadh, led highway patrol officers to a liquor stash in one of the cars. The accident happened when two drivers swerved off the main road while trying to avoid a head-on collision and crashed into three cars at a traffic light. The injured were rushed to King Khalid Hospital while the driver of the car where the liquor was found fled the scene. Lt. Col. Dhaifallah Al-Jabali told Okaz “large quantities of liquor were confiscated from the car.” Dead baby found near mosque bathroom By Khalid Al-Adal Okaz/Saudi Gazette BURAIDAH – A group of women found the body of baby boy near a mosque's bathroom in Buraidah. They immediately called police and investigators and a forensic doctor were dispatched to the scene. Col. Fahad Al-Habdan, Al-Qassim Police spokesman, said initial investigations showed the infant died of natural causes. “No marks of torture were found on the infant's body. The hospital will issue a medical report to this effect,” he said. News of the discovery went viral on social networking sites and some claimed that the infant was brutally tortured to death. 60 evacuated after Taif fire By Majed Al-Nufai'i Okaz/Saudi Gazette TAIF – A large fire broke out inside a four-story building in Taif forcing the Civil Defense to evacuate 60 tenants. Col. Khalid Al-Qahtani, Taif Civil Defense spokesman, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that three fire fighting teams were dispatched to battle the blaze. “The fire was doused in a short time and investigators are working to find the source of the fire,” said Al-Qahtani while urging parents to keep a close eye on their children and to avoid plugging too many things into an electrical outlet. 70 illegals arrested in Madinah MADINAH – Police here raided several houses in different districts and arrested 70 undocumented workers who were selling small goods and meals prepared in unhygienic kitchens to pilgrims and visitors. The illegal residents were referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution for further investigation before being deported to their respective countries. Col. Hashim Al-Radadi, Madinah Passport Directorate spokesman, said intensive raids are being conducted to eradicate the phenomenon of illegal street hawkers, especially during the Umrah and Haj seasons. — SG Truck driver's sleep damages 8 new cars By Muhammad Al-Sibai'i Okaz/Saudi Gazette AL-KHURMA – A truck transporting eight new vehicles overturned when the driver fell asleep at the wheel on the Taif-Riyadh Highway. Highway Patrol officers rushed to the scene to direct traffic which was disrupted by the accident. The driver was uninjured but the eight vehicles were damaged in the accident. __
