Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, laid the foundation stone for the new headquarters of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Saturday. Abdullah Al-Mobti, Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers, said the new headquarters will be an imposing edifice in the future and lauded the support of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, for the project. “This project will help the chamber keep up with the latest development projects that are being implemented in Makkah and all over the Kingdom. The new building is just one of many projects that will be carried out by the chamber to meet the needs of Makkah's businessmen,” said Talal Mirza, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MCCI. Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called for building a free-trade zone and an industrial zone in the holy city. “Makkah is the center of business for the Muslim world and a free-trade zone will befit its location. The industrial city will focus on manufacturing and making the things that pilgrims need in Makkah instead of importing goods from abroad. It'll also create job opportunities for residents of the city.” __
