Border Guards patrols have thwarted several weapons smuggling operations in the Bani Malek Sector of Jizan region during the past week, Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Al-Subhi said here Tuesday. Patrols seized 119 pistols, 25,295 pieces of ammunition of various kinds and 238 magazines, he said. Authorities have successfully cracked down on the illegal entry of arms and drugs in the Kingdom and in this connection a spokesman of the Ministry of Interior said earlier this week that in the last four months 681 persons were arrested for their involvement in smuggling and trafficking drugs worth roughly SR1.7 billion. Of those arrested, 96 were Saudi nationals while 585 belonged to 33 different nationalities. Security forces also seized Saudi currency worth SR16.73 million.
