The Jeddah Mayoralty has received offers from ten companies to clean Jeddah including some companies which have submitted their offers for the first time, said Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Nahri, the Mayoralty's Media Advisor. He said the authorities at the mayoralty are currently reviewing the offers, adding that seven companies will be awarded contracts one month from now and the work will begin from Nov. 3. He said the mayoralty has adopted a new strategy under which it has divided the governorate into nine zones including Thoul, New Jeddah, Abhor, Airport, Al-Azizyia, Al-Jama, Al-Balad, Historical Area, Umm Al-Salam and Braiman municipalities. Al-Nahri said the objective behind the division of the governorate is to improve the standard of the cleanliness in the “Bride of the Red Sea” pointing out that new conditions have been included in the contracts which include imposing large fines on delinquent companies. The mayoralty has adopted a number of measures to upgrade the standard of cleanliness in the coastal city including setting up a task force to monitor the performance and quality of these companies, Al-Nahri added. He said the total cost of the contracts is worth SR2 billion indicating that the mayoralty signed contracts worth SR900,000 five years ago with three companies dividing the city into three zones: north, south and central.
