The 10th Asian Film Festival opened on Monday evening at the Consulate General of Malaysia here. The 3-week festival was organized by the Asian Consulates Generals Club in Jeddah. Mohammad Ali bin Selamat, the Consul General of Malaysia, launched the festival and hosted a Malaysian film screening of "One Blood Line". The purpose of the 10th Asian Film Festival is to promote understanding on the diversity and harmony of Asian culture. The event has become a platform for local people to understand Asian culture. There are 11 consulates co-hosting the festival this year - Malaysia, China, Thailand, Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines and Indonesia. The co-hosts have picked 11 feature films that will be screened between Jan. 24 and Feb. 17. The Indonesian film night will conclude on Feb. 17, followed by an Asian Food Festival in which 13 countries will present famous local and traditional dishes and cuisines. - SG
