JEDDAH — JDC Veterans of coach Abdulaziz Yu defeated Wasalak 40's 85-78 in Game 1 of the 40 & Above Best-of-Three Championship series of the Seiko-JBL Basketball Tournament at the Khalidia basketball court here. The winner displayed good teamwork in the dying minutes. Callueng top scored with 36 points for the winner and was adjudged the Seiko Watch best player of the game, while Creencia scored 25 points for the loser. This tournament is principally sponsored by Seiko Watch of Al-Hussaini & Al-Yahya Investment Group (Othman Al-Hussaini). The co-sponsors are Nesma Airlines (Faisal Al-Turki), Rabea Tea, Giordano Fashions (Ahmadullah), New Cabalen Restaurant (Japh Villanueva) and Ric Printing. ICHTHUS of Dennis Elmenzo beat KD Tambays 113-100 in Game 1 of the Group A Division. The winner started with a solid defense and fought for victory. Carbonnel sank 28 points for the winner and was named the Giordano best player of the game. Tapdasan led the loser with 21 points. Fakieh Group of playing coach Ruel Bristol defeated New Cabalen Restaurant–R Printing 83-78. Romano collected 23 points and Sorizo 21 for the winner and were selected as the JBL best players of the game. Condez chipped in with 25 points for the loser. JDC Legend beat JDC All Star A 88-82 to take lead in the Inter-Dawah best-of-3 championship series. Jaber Gonzales scored 25 points for the winner and was adjudged the Seiko Watch best player of the game. Jameel Cobre poured in 33 points for the loser. BHBC of Popoy defeated Khalidia 40's 92-84 for the third place in the 40 & Above Division. Gadiana scored 24 points for the winner and was named the JBL best player of the game. Batalon led the loser with 17 points. Meanwhile, the JBL 2016 year-end basketball tournament is open for entries. The tournament format is for 3 divisions namely, Inter-Company, Weak A & B and the favorite 40 & above. The tourney is scheduled to begin on Dec 9.
