Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League suffered a fresh blow Saturday as it crashed to a 3-1 defeat at struggling Bolton. Goals from Mark Davies, Nigel Reo-Coker and Gretar Steinsson secured a vital three points for Bolton, which moved out of the relegation zone for the first time this season following the win. But the defeat saw Liverpool squander an opportunity to close the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea, and continued a miserable run of form for the Reds who have taken only six points from a possible 18 in their last six games. Liverpool, whose lone goal came from Craig Bellamy, is now in seventh place, six points adrift of Chelsea. Earlier, Fernando Torres' three-month goal-drought continued as Chelsea also stumbled in a 0-0 draw at Premier League newboys Norwich. Chelsea enjoyed the better chances of a scrappy game but was left frustrated as £50 million striker Torres drew a blank yet again. The draw left Chelsea in fourth place, five points behind third-placed Tottenham. Elsewhere Saturday, Clint Dempsey struck a hat trick as Fulham came from behind to defeat sixth-placed Newcastle 5-2 at Craven Cottage. Queens Park Rangers moved out of the relegation zone after goals from Heidar Helguson, Akos Buzsaky and Tommy Smith gave new manager Mark Hughes the first league victory of his reign with a 3-1 win over bottom club Wigan. Meanwhile, Blackburn battled to a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, David Goodwillie equalizing for Rovers after Tim Cahill's first goal for 13 months gave Everton the lead on 24 minutes. A dramatic finale at the Britannia Stadium saw West Bromwich Albion snatch a 2-1 win over Stoke. Sunderland's resurgence under Martin O'Neill gathered pace with a 2-0 win over Swansea. Elsewhere, Robbie Keane made a triumphant return for Aston Villa, scoring twice in a 3-2 win over 10-man Wolves in his first match back since completing a loan move from MLS team Los Angeles Galaxy. Espanyol blanks Granada Espanyol overcame a depleted front line to beat Granada 3-0 at home in the Spanish league Saturday. With injured strikers Sergio Garcia and Alvaro Vazquez unavailable, Mauricio Pochettino turned to his midfield to produce goals. Raul Baena put Espanyol in front with a header in the 26th and playmaker Joan Verdu added a second from the penalty spot after Vladimir Weiss was fouled by Allan Nyom in the area just before halftime. Substitute Rui Fonte capped the win with a goal in the 80th. Espanyol's fifth game without a loss lifted it provisionally into fifth place in the standings. Also, Getafe dealt Racing Santander its first loss in six weeks since the exit of coach Hector Cuper with a 2-1 comeback win. Totti breaks scoring record Francesco Totti scored a quick-fire brace against Cesena Saturday to break a scoring record that had stood for 56 years. The enigmatic Roma captain scored twice within the first eight minutes to reach 211 Serie A goals for his club, surpassing the single-club record set by Swedish great Gunnar Nordahl. The 35-year-old Totti took a backheel from Erik Lamela after just 40 seconds before firing home at Francesco Antonioli's near post thanks to a deflection off Maurizio Lauro. And then on eight minutes he was there at the back post to tap home Lamela's cross from the left. It meant he had caught and surpassed Nordahl's 210 Serie A goals for AC Milan between 1949 and 1956. Nordahl, however, managed his feat in a seven year spell and in just over half the number of games that it took Totti, over a 20-year period, to reach his figure. Within a minute of Totti's second goal, Fabio Borini had made it 3-0 as Roma picked apart its lowly opponents at will.
