Liverpool tightened its grip on fourth place in the Premier League with superbly taken goals from Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres helping it to a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on Sunday. Gerrard, making his 300th league appearance for the club, powered his way through the center of the Rovers defense before firing past goalkeeper Brad Friedel after 60 minutes. Gerrard then supplied a perfect cross for Torres to head home his 30th goal of the season to wrap the match up eight minutes from time. Late substitute Andriy Voronin added the third with a tap-in in the 90th minute and Roque Santa Cruz scored a consolation in stoppage time for Rovers. The win kept Liverpool (66 points) in fourth place, five points clear of fifth-placed Everton in the race for a Champions League spot. Everton missed the chance Saturday drawing 1-1 at Birmingham. Mauro Zarate scored the equalizer for Birmingham with a free kick in the 83rd minute, in answer to Joleon Lescott's 78th-minute header. The draw lifted Everton to 61 points. Birmingham's draw also helped relegation-threatened Bolton and Fulham, who both picked up valuable wins. Bolton beat West Ham 1-0, with Fulham winning 2-0 at Reading for its first away victory in the league since September 2006. Birmingham has 31 points for 17th place, followed by Bolton with 29 and Fulham with 27. Aston Villa beat already-relegated Derby 6-0 with six different goal scorers. Also Saturday, Swansea was promoted from League One to the League Championship, and Luton and Port Vale were relegated to League Two.Recreativo Huelva holds Barca Marco Ruben scored with two headers – one disputed by television replays – and rallied Recreativo Huelva to a 2-2 draw against FC Barcelona on Saturday. The Argentine forward looped the equalizer over approaching goalkeeper Victor Valdes inside the far post in the 71st minute. But it was his first in the 41st minute that caused controversy when the linesman ruled that the ball had crossed the line but video replay suggested Valdes had stopped it. Samuel Eto'o accounted for both of Barcelona's goals, out-jumping his marker in the second minute to deflect Giovani Dos Santos' short cross and spraying a bouncing ball from long range into the top corner in the 46th. Madrid has 66 points, six more than Barcelona. Villarreal has 59. Recreativo has 37. Earlier Saturday, Mohammed Tchite scored in the 83rd to give Racing Santander a 2-1 win over Valencia to maintain its European Champions League chances.Roma puts pressure on Inter AS Roma scored three late goals Sunday to rally for a 3-1 victory at Udinese and put pressure on Serie A leader Inter Milan. Rodrigo Taddei then scored the winner for Roma in the 70th and Ludovic Giuly added an insurance goal in the 90th. The win gives Roma 71 points, one behind Inter which played Fiorentina later Sunday. Juventus is third with 61 followed by Fiorentina at 56. Roma rebounded from its midweek 1-0 loss to Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinals, which eliminated the Italian club 3-0 on aggregate. Roma captain Francesco Totti returned following a two-week absence due to an injury. Totti looked rusty, missing several good scoring chances and was substituted in the 76th.
