Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and China Sunday stressed the importance of preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction of all kinds. The two sides also expressed their support for making the Middle East, a zone free of weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons, in accordance with international resolutions in this regard. A joint communique issued at the end of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's visit to the Kingdom also pledged to strengthen political cooperation in the light of international law to resolve international conflicts existing in the world in general and the Middle East in particular by peaceful means. They will also work for strengthening of peace and stability in the Middle East, the communique said. During his visit, the Chinese leader held fruitful and cordial talks with King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior. They reviewed bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern. The two sides expressed their satisfaction over major developments in their relations and cooperation between the two countries in all fields, stressing their readiness to improve them in the framework of strategic relations to serve the joint interests of the two countries and their peoples in all fields and to strengthen peace, stability and development at regional and global arenas. In the context of the desire to expand friendly ties between the two peoples, to enhance Saudi-Chinese relations, and to promote cooperation between the two countries in all fields, it was agreed to intensify exchanges of high-level visits and consultations at all levels to exchange views on various fields and international and regional issues of common concern. It was also agreed to enhance economic, trade and investment exchanges effectively and increasing cooperation in the fields of energy and infrastructures to achieve the comprehensive development of relations of cooperation existing between the two countries. The Saudi side reaffirmed its commitment to One-China Policy, and the Chinese side expressed its appreciation for the Saudi stance. On Middle East peace process, the two sides reaffirmed that a comprehensive and just solution to Arab-Israeli conflict based on relevant international legitimacy resolutions will be the firm basis of stability in the Middle East. It would also eliminate a major source of tension and threat to international peace and security. In this regard, the two sides stressed their support for the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state, emphasizing the importance of Arab peace initiative as approved by Beirut Summit in 2002 and confirmed by Arab Summit in Riyadh in 2007 and referred to by the resolutions of the United Nations and statements of international Quartet. The two sides stressed their absolute rejection of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, which threaten peace and stability in the world, emphasizing their readiness to enhance security cooperation in this regard. They also agreed on the importance of intensifying international cooperation to combat it, whatever might be its reasons.
