The National Water Company (NWC) has started work on 132,000 sewage connections in the northern and central districts of Jeddah. The works began this month with the connection of 13,500 homes in Al-Bawadi, Al-Salam and Al-Marwa 1 districts at a cost of SR175 million. The NWC wants to phase out the rest of the sanitary drainage connections over a number of years with all works scheduled to be completed by 2015. “We have already awarded three contracts and tendered seven others to complete the first stage in the central-northern area. This will see the execution of 118,500 home connections at a cost of SR1.54 billion,” a NWC spokesman said. He said the tendering procedures for all the contracts will be completed by the middle of the current year and the projects are to be completed in two years. The works will be carried out in the districts of Al-Safa, Al-Nuzha, Al-Rabwah, Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Rawda, Al-Khalidia, Al-Shatea, Al-Azizia, Al-Ruwais, Al-Andalus, Al-Rehab, Mushrefa, Al-Na'eem, Al-Zahra, Al-Nahda, Bani Malik, Al-Waha, Al-Salmia, Al-Nakheel, Abrag Al-Raghamah, Al-Naseem, Al-Fayha, Quwaizah, Obaid Al-Saadi, Al-Tashleeh, Al-Muhammadiya, Al-Murjan, Al-Basateen, Al-Samer, Al-Rabi' and Al-Tawfeeq.
