Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, is expected to launch Saturday the first phase of the sanitary drainage project in Jeddah including house connections to the sewage network and the opening of four water treatment plants. This will be in the presence of Engineer Abdullah Al-Hussayen, Minister of Water and Electricity. Some 20,000 homes in Al-Safa, Al-Bawadi and Al-Marwa districts will be connected to the sewage network in the first phase. Following this, the National Water Company (NWC) will work on more than 20,000 connections in Al-Salama, Al-Bawadi, Al-Safa, Al-Marwa and Rabwah districts. This will be completed in the first quarter of 2012. This will be followed by connecting 20,000 houses in Al-Rawdha, Al-Khalidiah, Al-Faisalia, Al-Nuzha, Al-Wurood and Al-Murjan districts. These connections will be completed by the end of 2012. Then the last phase which will connect Mushrefa, Bani Malik and Al-Azizia districts will be completed by the end of 2013. The report showed that the area covered by the sanitary drainage network in Jeddah represents 22 percent of the total inhabited area in the coastal city. __
