ALKHOBAR — The Al-Khobar hub of Global Shapers in its drive to develop leadership skill among the youth and generate awareness about healthy lifestyle and impact of being fit on the success road map, took their campaign to schools and the first in series was Al Khozama International School which hosted ‘Healthy Awareness Campaign' early this week for students of grade 9 and 10 along with their parents. The program was aimed at educating the students and parents about healthy lifestyle and living, help them to avoid fast food, streamline the breakfast, lunch and dinner in a proper diet. The girls section school principal Shimmi Siby stressed about the need of educating women about the healthy lifestyle especially girls as they are the shapers of future. She welcomed the drive initiated by the Global Shapers and said that such drives will motivate the youth of today to become leaders of their respective field tomorrow. Al Khozama International School is the first school to join hands with Global Shapers to improve and support students even with their lifestyle. Students will be undergoing a challenge month in which the school will take measurements of students and after 15 days there will be a follow up. Later, on completion of 30 days the winners will be declared and certificates will be given. The students participating in the program and their mothers were excited about the whole concept. Salma Al Heraiqi, curator of the Khobar Hub of Global Shapers, also spoke to the students on the occasion. She gave a brief account of the important activities undertaken by Global Shapers, their features and impact on the youth. She said in the long run the drive would produce natural leaders in their respective field. Later talking to Saudi Gazette, Salma said the prime aim was to help youth develop their leadership skills and shape their potentials. Global shapers Community is flourishing worldwide. It comprises of young leaders ranging between 20 and 30 years known as shapers. Under suitable environment and given opportunities shapers project their ability and develop their potentials. These shapers in turn form their community hub and carry out various projects to serve the society and improve their community. Global Shapers Community is an initiative of World Economic Forum (WEF) and is city-based network. There are 453 hubs worldwide with more than 5,000 shapers. In Saudi Arabia there are three city-based hubs. Al-Khobar Community hub is one such hub having 22 shapers both men and women. Al-Khobar shapers try to find out the need of their community, conduct market research, identify the main players and come up with their initiatives and shed light on important issues. In the past two years, Al-Khobar hub has succeeded in bringing in 16 partners. Ministry of Health, Saudi Aramco, Rawabi Holding are some of the prominent partners of their endeavors. The Al-Khobar hub has identified colleges and conducted career counseling to high school students, guiding and supporting the youth in making an informed decision when choosing a college major and deciding on a career path. Later, Dina Abu Shafeq — nutritionist from Carlton Nutrition center, Rasha Bubshait — Studio 55, Anusha from Destination magazine also participated in the workshop.
