By Mohannad Sharawi Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – A Saudi female student won the first Prince Mohammad Al-Faisal Award for Islamic Economic Research on Monday at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI). Wafa'a Abdul Aziz Al-Sharif, from Taif University, won the SR100,000 prize for her research entitled “Corporate Governance at Islamic banks”. In his speech, Prince Mohammad Al-Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz congratulated the winner and said the award will help foster creativity and competition between researchers in the Kingdom. The event was also attended by Sheikh Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the JCCI; Yaseen Abdul Rahman Al-Jifri, Dean of the Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Business Management; Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammad Batarfi, secretary general of the award; and a number of specialists and economic studies students. Al-Jifri said Prince Mohammad wants the award to be an annual endowment. He said the winning research will be published. He said the award is open to undergraduates and post-graduate Saudi and foreign students. He hoped it would stimulate scientific thinking on Shariah-aligned economic theories. Shurooq Al-Suleiman, Chairperson of Jumara International Company for Real Estate Investment and Development and the organizer of the ceremony, said the award will encourage students to compete in the economic field, which will contribute to the country's development. __
