Police here seized 196 kilograms of hashish and 900 liters of alcohol during four separate smuggling attempts. Jazan Police spokesman Khalid Bin Qaziz said in one attempt, police officers observed a suspicious vehicle and approached it for inspection. Officers found 70 kg of hashish in a hidden compartment. The officers seized the contraband and arrested the driver. In the second attempt, the officers noted another suspicious vehicle and approached it for inspection. They found 81 kg of hashish also in a hidden compartment. Police also seized 45 kg of hashish after foiling another smuggling attempt. Meanwhile, the Mujahideen special police in Al-Darb arrested 89 people of an African nationality who sneaked into the country across the border. They also seized 900 liters of alcohol from the infiltrators. 963 car dealerships shut down in Riyadh RIYADH — The municipality shut down a total of 693 car dealerships for operating without a license during an inspection campaign in the capital. Municipal Affairs Vice Assistant Secretary Abdulaziz Al-Ujyan said Riyadh Municipality organized a four-day inspection campaign during which a total of 1,051 violations were recorded at car dealerships. The violations varied from operating without a license to parking more than two cars outside the dealership. The municipality also towed 219 cars with the assistance of the Traffic Department. Al-Ujyan said the role of citizens in implementing the law is paramount and encouraged the public to report any violations by calling 940. Red Crescent responded to 1,508 calls last month TABUK — The Red Crescent responded to 1,508 medical emergencies last month. Tabuk Red Crescent official spokesman Khalid Al-Enizi said the calls the Red Crescent received varied from health emergencies such as fainting, strokes, respiratory problems and accidents such as traffic, workplace and home accidents. The victims and patients involved were either treated on the spot or transported to the hospital. He also said some patients and victims prefer to be taken to the hospital privately or refuse to comply with paramedics' instructions and recommendations. 23 restaurants closed down in Makkah MAKKAH — The municipality shut down 23 out of 40 restaurants it inspected over the past two days. A source from the campaign said the municipality shut down over 50 percent of the restaurants it inspected including one restaurant in a five-star hotel. The inspection campaign covered Ajyad, Al-Ghaza, Buhra and Al-Otaibiyah districts. The municipality disposed of many food products that were either expired or stored incorrectly. In total, the municipality disposed of 2,646 kg of food. The municipality also took 171 food samples and 22 water samples to examine in its labs. 105 violations in car parts stores TAIF — The labor office recorded a total of 105 violations in car parts stores during an inspection campaign on Thursday. Taif Labor Office reported it ran an inspection campaign on more than 83 stores selling car parts and accessories. The violations varied from operating without a license to hiring illegal expatriates. The owners of the stores will be penalized according to the violations committed.
