RIYADH – The Ministry of Labor will start issuing from Tuesday temporary work permits for Syrian nationals who are in the Kingdom on visit visas. The Syrian visitors can obtain work permits via Ajeer electronic gate (www.ajeer.com.sa) for a renewable period of six months, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday. The decision was in line with an order issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman. Khaled Abal Khail, director general of media at the Ministry of Labor, said the Ajeer portal has been readied to receive work permit applications from Syrian male and female visitors between the age of 18 and 60. "The holders of the temporary permit will be allowed to work in certain trades with individual sponsors or establishments for a period of six months conforming to the ministry's rules and regulations. They do not need other identification documents and can work without transferring sponsorship," he said. Abal Khail said queries about the service could be directed to Ajeer customer service by calling at 920002866 or the ministry at 19911 or to the portal's link on the Internet. The visitor's service via Ajeer allows individuals and business owners to take advantage of services of Syrian visitors, in accordance with the labor regulations. A technical team, comprising representatives of various authorities, was formed to put in place a mechanism to design, issue, renew and cancel temporary work permits for Syrian residents living in the Kingdom on visit visas. Previously, the Ministry of Labor corrected the status of Yemeni nationals who had been living illegally in the Kingdom. Ajeer provided Yemenis temporary work permits, valid for six months, after obtaining travel documents from their government.
