Bids to smuggle weapons foiled

Two attempts to smuggle weapons into the Kingdom across its land borders have been foiled. Al-Bathaa Custom Control Director General, Abdulrahman Al-Muhanna, said the a private transportation vehicle was used in the first attempt. The vehicle carried 19 guns and 9,000 bullets. The weapons were hidden in the driver's duffle bag. In another vehicle officers found three guns and 32 bullets hidden under the back seat.
Man guns down brother, two others
TAIF — A man allegedly shot to death his brother and two others from the same tribe on Monday around noon. Makkah Police spokesman, Col. Ati Al-Qurashi, said upon receiving a report, the police were able to locate the suspect, who was in his 40s. The alleged killer shot his victims multiple times after a fight broke out between them, police said. Investigation are continuing.
Asians arrested for possessing alcohol
BAHA — Police have arrested two Asian expatriates for possessing alcohol. Baha Police spokesman, Col. Saad Tirad, said the police found three bottles of alcohol with the total capacity of 2.25 liters. The police also found alcohol-manufacturing equipment with the two expatriates they arrested.
8-year jail, fine for joining Daesh
RIYADH — A man who joined Daesh (the so-called IS) was sentenced to prison for eight years and banned from travel for eight years after his release. The married man, in his 30s with a middle school education, decided to join Daesh after falling out with his family and borrowed money from a friend to travel to Turkey. After reaching Turkey he texted his wife, telling her that he planned to join Daesh. His wife tried to talk him out of joining the group, but he remained adamant. After reaching Syria, the man trained with Daesh, but after his mother contacted him and urged him to return to the Kingdom, he smuggled himself out of Syria and sought refuge at the Saudi Embassy in Turkey. The embassy arranged for his return to the Kingdom, where he was arrested. The man was also fined SR3,000.
Boy falls from building, dies
DAMMAM — An 11-year-old boy died after falling from the roof of an apartment building. Eastern Province Police spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ziyad Al-Raqiti, said the the Indian national fell from the roof of the four-story apartment building where his family lived in Dammam's Muhammad Bin Saud District. The boy suffered various fractures and injuries, which led to his death, Al-Raqiti said. The boy's body is lying in the morgue as police investigations continue.
