Dangerously high levels of lead have been found in a number of cosmetic products being sold in the Kingdom. The revelation was made when the Saudi Food and Drug Authority tested different brands of makeup for heavy metals and bacterial contamination. A SFDA spokesman said: “Three cosmetics (Miss Ross, Jadore, and Silky Shine) were found to have a higher percentage of lead than allowed under the limits of the GCC standards 2009/1943.” The Authority is now calling for the products to be taken off market shelves and to be banned throughout the Kingdom. It is urging cosmetics consumers to double-check the labels of products for the names of the manufacturer, ingredients and production date. Consumers who have stocks of the cosmetics have been warned not to sell the products and to get rid of the samples they have.
