Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Rabat, Wednesday gave the Syrian regime three days to agree to end its brutal crackdown on protesters and to allow observers from the League to see for themselves what is going on in the country. The Syrian regime had called for the convening of an Arab summit, but that was nothing more than a maneuver to buy time while it continued its futile attempt to suppress the uprising of its people. The regime has already killed thousands of innocent men and women who have been guilty of nothing more than peaceful demonstration. What Damascus is doing is clearly committing a terrible crime against humanity. The leader of the regime is not satisfied with the killing of people in cold blood, but is also using heavy weaponry to shell and destroy people's homes and property. However, he overestimated himself in thinking that he would be able to deceive the members of the Arab League and along with them the world community by requesting that an Arab summit be convened. It is clear to everyone that this was only an extension of the tactics that he used by announcing to the entire world that he had accepted the Arab initiative, when he had no intention of doing so. From the beginning the ill-intentions of the leader of the Syrian regime were clear. He wanted more time to continue the atrocities that the regime is perpetrating upon innocent Syrian people who are protesting the tyranny under which they have lived for decades. The refusal of the Arab League to agree to the Syrian call for a summit meeting is evidence that the League understands the true mentality of the Syrian regime. The fact that Syria did not attend the meeting of foreign ministers in Rabat means that the regime was aware that there was no place for it in the meeting since its membership in the Arab League has been suspended. The Syrian regime has no choice left but to agree to the demands made by the Arab League and to submit to the demands of its people. Failure to agree to these demands will result in Arab, regional and international political and economic sanctions aimed at the protection of the Syrian people and the toppling of the regime in Damascus. __
