A tragic bus crash on the Madina-Tabuk highway Wednesday resulted in the death of a pilgrim and the injury of 17 others. The dead man from Dagestan was one of 38 pilgrims traveling from Russia and Dagestan to the holy sites. Ambulances rushed to the scene of the accident and brought the injured to the General Hospital in Khaibar where a state of maximum alert was declared. Five injured people were taken to the King Fahd Hospital in Madina. The Dagestani man's body has been placed in the hospital morgue and his next of kin are being notified. The wounded are being treated. Their injuries, however, are not believed to be serious. Reports said the Jordanian bus driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into steel barriers on the roadside. Madina Civil Defense Spokesman, Capt. Bandar Al-Ahmadi said the “accident took place at 9 A.M.” and that “the accident dossier has been submitted to the concerned authorities”. __
