United Arab Emirates and India signed on Tuesday a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on manpower which they hope would hasten the recruitment of Indian workers wanting to work in the UAE, the Emirates News Agency said on Thursday. Federal Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and the visiting UAE Labor Minister Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash signed the document in the presence of several top officials from both countries, the news agency said. Ghobash, who held hailed the friendship and relations of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, noted that over 1.7 million Indian citizens currently work in various emirates in the UAE, the agency said. He said during the signing ceremony that the MoU also covers joint initiatives in a number of areas and will attract Indian labor to the UAE. The two countries decided to revise the MoU, originally signed in December 2006, to address various problems faced by the Indian workers in the UAE.
