Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, launched an event that marked Jeddah as the “New Jeddah Youth City” as the youth turn their eyes with optimism toward a developed world. But turning Jeddah into a “youth city” does not mean that it would have no place for old people who are the merited veterans of society. It simply means that Jeddah is a symbol of the crowning glory of the past and ambition of the future that eventually leads to the emergence of a modern city. This reflects the ambition of the ever-young prince. The relationship of Prince Khaled with the youth is not new or is a product of the spur of the moments. It stretches to the time when he worked as Director of Youth Welfare in Jeddah at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs from 1967 to 1971. In 1971 he was elevated to Director General of Youth Welfare. The idea of the Gulf Football Championship was his brainchild. By all measures, the relationship of Prince Khaled with Makkah is exceptional as it is his birthplace. He was born in Makkah on Feb 24, 1940 and left it when the call of national duty to his country required his departure. Eventually, he has returned to it as its Emir. The privacy and spirituality of the place has inspired him to come up with future plans for the development of Makkah Region, including Umm Al-Qurra, Jeddah, Taif and all the governorates affiliated with the region. His plans ensure a quantitative and qualitative cultural and technological leap to other parts of the region. His legendary enthusiasm made him determined more than ever to take the entire region to be a part of developed countries with the help and hardworking youth. He will do it because he is a great enemy of failure. __
