A committee of several government authorities has been formed in order to fill wells in farms, valleys and flood courses, an official Civil Defense source told Okaz/Saudi Gazette, here Wednesday. These wells have been found to be lacking safety requirements resulting in several drowning cases. Some companies were also found to be violating mining investment regulation, the source said. Details on the the deserted wells and those lacking safety requirements would be submitted to the authorities concerned for approval to fill them by the Committee for Monitoring Lands and Demolish Encroachments in the governorate. Filling of the wells will not be undertaken unless details of the violation are confirmed by the Directorate General for Water in Makkah region, the source said. In addition, the committee will conduct a field survey in the governorate so as to locate the wells that ought to be dealt with and write to the Encroachments Committee to fill the wells, excavations or swamps. Also, the Civil Defense has to be provided with a copy of the locations including all specifications, the source added. __
