The body recovered from the swamp and carried on a Civil Defense stretcher. — Okaz photo Okaz/Saudi Gazette KHAMIS MUSHAYT – A 14-year-old boy drowned in a large swamp in Khamis Mushayt's new industrial estate on Friday night. His body was recovered by the Civil Defense Rescue. The Red Crescent and security bodies were also present at the scene. The boy apparently used a rubber tube to swim in the swamp but currents pulled him down into the quagmire. His worried family started searching for him when he did not return home. They concluded he had drowned when they found his shoes and clothes on the bank. The anxious father eventually called the Civil Defense for help. Lt. Col. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Assimi, Spokesman of the Directorate of Civil Defense, said they received a report on the drowning of a boy in the 100 by 80 meter swamp. Rescue teams and divers rushed to the scene and a search was carried out until the body was recovered. The body was kept in Khamis Mushayt General Hospital morgue until procedures were completed. The reports said the boy died of drowning. Maj. Gen. Abdul Wahid Owaidh Al-Thubaiti, Director of the Civil Defense in Asir region offered his condolences to the boy's family. The security authorities had to disperse a large crowd of curious onlookers at the scene. __
