The Jeddah Mayoralty has prepared a plan to crack down on hawkers in Ramadan. Eng. Sami Nawar, head of the Historical Area Municipality, said that officers will “confiscate and destroy their goods as per the mayoralty's plan”. The mayoralty has granted 170 licenses for citizens to set up street stalls as per legal conditions announced earlier, Nawar added. “The crackdown team will closely monitor hawkers at Bab Makkah, Al-Nada Market and King Abdul Aziz Street to find out where they hide the goods they sell on the streets and to confiscate them. The collectors of empty carton boxes will be chased and the carton boxes will be seized and destroyed and put into containers that will be distributed in different locations for this purpose.” Nawar said that the plan has been approved by the Jeddah Governor.
