LONDON: The Saudi Embassy in the United Kingdom has described reports in the local British media casting doubts on the nature of Kingdom's financial support for British universities as a pack of lies. In a press statement Friday, the embassy said the Kingdom's donations have been given to prestigious education institutions and known charitable societies, including the College of Oriental and African Studies in London University. Casting doubts or suspicions on the motives for these donations and portraying them as an attempt to gain influence confirm that those who are carrying out these malicious campaigns against the Kingdom are presenting lies, forging the facts and then believing them, the statement said. “All the donations provided by the Kingdom are fully compliant with the local laws and regulations in force in the UK,” the statement said. An article casting doubts about this support has been prepared by a hitherto unknown student organization, the statement noted. The article, immediately picked by British newspapers, “contains a group of imaginations that are existent in the minds of certain categories whose motives and inclinations are known,” the embassy statement said. The Saudi Embassy in Britainsaid support from the Kingdom to prestigious universities and charitable societies is a noble act and approach, and that the Kingdom will continue providing this support, especially because it is voluntary, announced, known to all and in compliance with the local laws and regulations.
