JEDDAH: A man has been arrested after refusing to stop on the orders of police and opening fire on them when cornered. Officers conducting a routine patrol in an east Jeddah district Tuesday were reportedly approaching a parked vehicle whose driving was behaving suspiciously when he suddenly sped away and opened fire randomly to aid his escape. A police spokesman said that patrol officers called for back up in their pursuit before managing to corner the motorist. “He then opened fire, forcing officers to themselves fire warning shots and also puncture his tires,” the spokesman said. “Upon inspection the vehicle was found to contain a machine gun, knives, a quantity of drugs and two bottles of alcohol.”
