JEDDAH: Jeddah Police have arrested two men of African descent for allegedly using maids to burgle the houses of residents, according to Brig. Gen. Misfir Al-Je'aid, spokesman for the Jeddah Police. The thieves had apparently had the maids, also of African descent, temporarily employed by their victims. One of the victims, a Yemeni expatriate, had hired a female domestic worker when his wife had a baby. The worker exploited the wife's condition and her preoccupation with her newborn baby to steal and escape with jewelry worth over SR400,000. The expatriate man discovered the theft several hours after the housemaid's escape and rushed to Al-Kandarah Police Station to report the crime. A security team launched a search operation and spotted the domestic worker's broker. After keeping him under surveillance for several days, he was seen having a meeting with a fellow countryman. The security men surrounded the location and they were arrested. The operation was followed by the Director of Jeddah Police and supervised by the Director of Al-Balad Police Station. The perpetrators confessed to finding temporary jobs for the women in family homes to help them steal. Al-Je'aid warned residents they should not provide jobs for those who violate the country's residency laws.
