Police in Jeddah have arrested two Somalis for the theft of a wallet and residence permit (iqama) and the blackmailing of the owner for their return. Following the theft, the victim, an Egyptian expatriate, received a phone call demanding the sum of SR1500 for the return of his iqama, on the condition that the police are not informed. The victim, however, reported the incident to Al-Kandarah Police, who hatched a plot to catch the perpetrators. When the victim agreed to meet the thieves and pay them for the return of his iqama, plainclothes police were lying in wait and caught the thieves red-handed, after which they were detained at Al-Kandarah Police Station. Col. Misfir Al-Je'aid, Spokesman of Jeddah Police, later praised the victim of the crime for his courage and cooperation, and appealed to all other victims of similar incidents to report them without hesitation to the authorities. – Okaz __
